Will ‘The View’ Meet With Donald Trump? What Co-Hosts Said

Morning Joe’s recent interview with President-elect Donald Trump sparked a debate on The View about whether the panelists would be open to meeting him themselves.
“I would absolutely sit down and always have a conversation because I’m confident enough to sit at a table in contrast and disagree,” co-host Sara Haines said. “When I disagree, I’m not scared. I’m not afraid. You have the conversations, or nothing happens.”
Morning Joe’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski went to Mar–a-Lago this weekend to “restart communications” with Trump, a year after accusing the president-elect of “going full-blown Hitler” during his primary campaign.
“Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump but also talking with him,” Brzezinski said.
The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin defended their decision to engage in a conversation with Trump, stating it was “the right thing to do.”
“Seventy-five million-plus American voters normalized Donald Trump by making him President-elect Donald Trump,” she said. “This notion that the resistance, who opposes him, stayed in their safe bubbles, sat on their hands, and just complained about him for four years—that would have a bigger impact than sitting down [with him].”
Farah Griffin continued, “They both see themselves as opinion journalists who want to actually be able to engage with the person that they talk about every day and actually be able to raise issues with them when they’re concerned.”
She compared the meeting to President Joe Biden engaging with Trump or presidents meeting foreign adversaries, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and problem-solving.
Haines agreed, saying, “I don’t want only Fox [News] people sitting down with him. I want everyone. I don’t need to know their motivation. I just know you get nowhere in silence.”
However, Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin made it clear they want no part in any conversation with Trump, stressing voters should be fully aware of what they are supporting.
“I will never sit with him,” Navarro said.
“I don’t think you need to sit down for 90 minutes at Mar-a-Lago and kiss his ring to be able to speak the truth and to be able to cover a story,” Hostin said. “I think that this president-elect, I hate to say it, but would like nothing more than to have only Fox News cover him.”
“We have to remember that Trump is the guy who ushered in the era of fake news. He is the guy who ushered in alternative facts,” Hostin said. “I don’t think he can be trusted in the way that other presidents can be trusted.”
